Jordan Lake Water Supply Project
The Triangle region is growing. To support this growth, the WIP aims to secure a long-term water supply for the area. The plan involves withdrawing and treating water from Jordan Lake. That water would then be delivered to our communities’ water systems.
About the Project
Jordan Lake is a reservoir and vital regional resource west of Raleigh and south of Durham in Chatham County. It is a popular place for recreation, supplies water to surrounding communities, controls flooding and water quality, and helps conserve fish and wildlife habitats.
Project Purpose
This project will provide the growing communities of the Western Intake Partnership with a reliable source of clean drinking water, while protecting the reservoir's other uses.

Water Intake and Treatment Facility
A new raw water intake north of the Vista Point recreation area on the west side of Jordan Lake, with tunnel, pipeline and pump station to deliver water to a new water treatment facility.
